MYTH-O'-WOOD

The permanent exhibition in my studio is comprised of 24 wood sculptures depicting archetypal images. Even though the sculptures are considered individually, their dynamic installation creates a different level of art work. They invite the visitors for a personal journey of thoughts regarding archetypal patterns, inner wisdom, chaos and fear.
We live in an unpredictable maze-like world, and if we want to find our way out of the chaos, we need to listen to our inner (spiritual) wisdom. We need to identify the archetypal patterns, which govern our actions, and become aware of their personal, social and global impact. “The energy of the archetype and its manifestation in our psyches and lives is so pervasive and intimate that no part of our lives exists separately from at least one archetypal pattern.” /Caroline Myss Ph.D/
The set up of the sculptures suggest a maze-like forest where there is a sense of being lost. The positions of the sculptures are changed from time to time, like a pack of shuffled cards.
In this unfamiliar “spooky forest” of continuous changes, the only fixed point is the communication with the inner wisdom of the images. This journey of self-awareness is individual according to the unique inner relationships discovered between the sculptures visited in a random order (like meditating on cards picked by chance). Outside the door stands the card reader with eyes like black void. Above the door the trickster hangs upside down (in folklore, he thought to bring luck for the journey).

About the sculpting process:

The 24 sculptures were carved over a three years period. Each of the sculptures were conceived in a real life situation and evolved naturally to archetypal level. They are expressions and not illustrations of the archetypes. Out of interest, I have studied various systems, which recognise the importance of archetypes such as Psychodynamics, Spiritual Science and Tarot. Story and poetry are also important elements of my work; not only at an inspirational level but as major parts of the expression. My starting points are metaphors of the soul relating to actual archetypes. They drive the inner movements that create the forms. I like to think that poetry, story and sculpture are inseparable in my art and I often call my sculptures ‘storysculptures’.
I carve my images in all sorts of wood playing with the features of the natural wood to build up unusual effects with various techniques, materials (glass, metals etc.) and small objects. I also create an environment for my sculptures, where similar shapes, colours and patterns rule. It is called Myth-o’- Wood.

Please, email or phone me for an appointment if you wish to visit the MYTH-O'-WOOD exhibition. The entrance is free and I will be pleased to see you!
